First Aid: Heavy Frostweave Bandage Manual

The highest level bandage in Wotlk will be the [Heavy Frostweave Bandage] which is trained from a book, [Manual: Heavy Frostweave Bandage], similar to its’ Outland counter-part, the [Heavy Netherweave Bandage]. However there is a twist, the book is a BOP drop, rather than from a vendor. The book drops mostly from the elites in the different dungeons and raids, as well as a lower drop rate off non-elites from some of the higher level zones. In addition, the book will only drop if:

  1. You have a high enough skill to learn it, First Aid 400 or higher.
  2. You don’t know it already

This book drop is similar to the recipe drops from Karazhan, where people who have the profession will be able to see the drop and roll for it. The whole idea is that people can’t ninja the item and/or sell it for a profit. This also stops the raid spot selling to people that want certain recipes. The book won’t be extremely hard to get and does not force you to run instances for it either. Eventually everyone will have it and be happy. Bad news for those people that like to sell First Aid books with a huge mark up on the auction house.

Update (10-11-08): Almost a guaranteed drop for everyone in Voilet Hold, an instance in Dalaranfor level 74 of higher. It seems like the First Aid 400 skill requirement has been removed, players have reported that it dropped for them when they had less than 400 FA skill.

I’ve never heard of raid spot selling to get bop recipes before, but I don’t doubt that it happens.

I’m just curious: how does this differ from other BOP recipe drops in terms of raid spot selling? Is it just that this recipe drops more commonly, or just outside of raids?

This is different because there is a higher drop rate and drops in raids, 5 man instances, and certain high level zones. As far as raid spot selling, this item tries to prevent that, even though it is very uncommon for buying a spot just for a recipe. It gives raid spot buying less of an appeal compared to having a chance on getting the BOP recipes from raid content. Blizzard is actually shying away from crafter specific gear according to the blue post at: ( http://blue.mmo-champion.com/19/11296527383-will-there-be-a-makeable-stormherald-like-wep.html )

Why not make it BOP from a vendor, or allow it to be trainable? Seems much more fair to players that primarily PVP. (Much is imbalanced for the primarily pvp player though so this will fall on deaf ears)
