Leatherworking: Quivers and Ammo Pouches

As we all know, most new items on a server will sell for large amounts of gold, usually much higher than the materials themselves. Combine that with a crafting profession and a reputation dependant recipe, you get an opportunity for a temporary monopoly.  In simple economics, a monopoly is control of a product or service in a particular market which enables you to control the prices. The items we are referring to in this case would be the new 28 slot [Nerubian Reinforced Quiver] and [Dragonscale Ammo Pouch]. With the removal of the link between auto shot and steady shot, Hunters are now have more flexibility in choosing weapons rather than trying to find that bow with the right amount of attack speed. In TBC, almost every hunter used a bow, so ammo pouches didn’t sell as well as quivers, this is no longer the case.

At the moment there are not too many if any at all on the auction house, mainly due to reputation requirements for these quivers. This is a great chance to start crafting and selling these for about a 200g profit on each one, more if your a skinner. Take control of this market while you can before more leatherworkers start getting the reputation the recipes require. I had sold my server’s first [Dragonscale Ammo Pouch] for 500g on the auction house, which was a 400g profit at the time. The ammo pouch recipe was much easier to obtain due to the fact that it only requires being honored with Kalu’ak, which can be easily gained in the early levels. Since server prices are still fluctuating, you have to pay close attention to how much the materials cost in order for you to profit off these items. I try to buy my [Nerubian Chitin] and [Icy Dragonscale] at less than 10g each and [Heavy Borean Leather] at less than 15g each. If I buy these items at the max thresholds I have set, than the quivers will cost 230g. They will sell for about 500g on my particular server, for a profit of almost 250g for each sale. In fact I constantly check for low priced leather on the AH whether or not I need them. This is a good habit to get into since you will catch a lot of good deals this way. If you keep checking for leather prices, you will come across some very good deals in the current economy. I have seen specialty leather for less than 2g each thus increasing my profits on whatever I chose to craft. Also check for regular [Borean Leather] and [Borean Leather Scraps] as well, almost always it is cheaper to buy the 12 needed for 2 [Heavy Borean Leather] than just the 2 itself. Soon quiver prices will begin to fall as more people enter the market, so this is your chance to make some decent money before that happens.
