Disenchanting Stoneguard Bands
With enchanting materials selling so well, disenchanting items have become very profitable. There are different items that can be created using very cheap mats or even purchased for a low price from the auction house. These are mostly level 75+ green items that disenchant into mostly [Greater Cosmic Essence] and [Infinite Dust]. You may have even noticed enchanters buying these for 10-15g in the trade channel. This is because the materials are worth more than what they paid for the original green item, or at worse, they break even on the materials. A popular item used for this method is the [Stoneguard Band] crafted by Jewelcrafters using only 2 [Eternal Earth]‘s. Earth’s as you may have noticed are only about 5g each, so this crafting ring only costs about 10g to make while getting back at least 10g in return from what it disenchants into depending on what prices are on your particular server. This can be a great way to stock up on enchanting mats or sell them for profit, not to mention the gold saved for your own enchantments. So we decided to test what profits look like for this method.
The Experiment
We crafted 30 [Stoneguard Band]‘s using 60 [Eternal Earth]‘s that were bought for 5g or less back in the first month of Wotlk. This seemed to be a good investment after doing our analysis on earth’s a while back. So our investment came out to about 300g, you should be able to come close to this number as well since earth’s are still very cheap especially if you buy in bulk. Now here are the results from what the rings were disenchanted into and their worth based on data from Allakhazam.com:

- 78 [Infinite Dust] (5g/each) 390g
- 8 [Greater Cosmic Essence] (30g/each) 240g
- 1 [Dream Shard] (10g/each) 10g
Total: ~640g
Before trying this, do your own calculations on how much these materials are worth on your server. Based on average auction house data, profits should be over 300g. More realistically, we only net a profit of 175g by doing this. Remember this was only for a 300g investment, obviously larger investments will net you more gold. It really depends on how many GCE’s you get from doing this as they only have an average of 22% drop rate. The good thing about this method is that you always walk away with a good amount of enchanting materials even after you break even. Great money saver for leveling Jewelcrafting/Enchanting and for your own enchants. The break even point isn’t so bad either, so even if you do not have these professions you could tip someone or have a guild mate to help you out.
