Eternal Farming Locations

Fire Revenant

Although we normally give advice centered around crafting and playing the auction house, farming high priced eternals may be worth it to some of you. Maybe you don’t have a huge bankroll yet or just spent all your gold on a new Death Knight. So we found this eternal farming guide that may be helpful for those who still like farming for things or those just getting started in building wealth. We recommend that you farm the highest priced eternal on your server for profit, for most servers this is going to be [Eternal Fire] or in its’ basic form a [Crystallized Fire]. Due to the high demand of some eternals, you may run into competition. It really only takes one other person farming to slow you down and decrease your overall profits. I personally don’t usually farm for anything, but I tried farming for fire to get an estimate on the gold per hour. In Burning Crusade, farming primals brought in at best 200g/hour if you were lucky. So lets take a look at how much I made attempting to farm fire in almost full epics and 3/5 tier 7. This was only from a 30 minute sample, a very short during for this type of testing. There was very little competition and the farmed location was he southeast corner of Winergrasp.

Mobs

Loot

  • [Eternal Fire] ( 5) – 200g
  • Gold drops: 20g
  • Vendor Trash: 25g
  • ilvl 170+ Green Items (4) – Disenchant Value - 60g+

For about 30 minutes of work, I made 300g or 600g/hour. This is a nice increase from the previous expansion, but things also cost more. This method used optimal conditions such as low or no competition, ability to AOE multiple mobs, and little downtime. I’m sure that some people are able to pull in slightly more gold as well, but chances are you won’t be. All it takes is one other person farming to lower that figure significantly. Re-spawn rates for one person is not very good either, let alone for two people. You may find yourself waiting on the next wave of re-spawns even if your the only one there. Always kill the larger Flame Revenant first, they have a bit more HP, but they are guaranteed to drop 1-3 [Crystallized Fire]. A better idea is to start crafting epics with your farmed eternals if possible. This makes each eternal or raw material worth a lot more. That is if the item sells for more than what the original mats cost for it. Crafting BOE epics in most cases still bring in a decent amount of gold. More people are hitting 80 and prices of mats are coming down as well. Even though my epics are selling for 500g less, I am still profiting due to falling price of mats. This method is my main source of income at the moment and takes very little time. A smaller portion also comes from crafting or converting items with professions. I am recouping my expenses at a fairly fast rate even after spending 37,000g+ on [Reins of the Traveler's Tundra Mammoth], [Band of the Kirin Tor], and a [Mechano-hog].

We would like to know what our reader’s experiences are with farming eternals and what their profits are looking like.

Ive been reading this blog since release of wotlk, and it’s been a great help to me :) I’ve been flying around sholazar with my engineering and mining. Being one of first guys to ding 80 I quickly made 30k gold in a few weeks.

Now the problem is, playing on a low populated server, the ah is dominated by only a few people. People undercut prices and especially price of primal fires fluctuate between 20-65g. It is frustrating to see two pages of primal fire being sold for 40g, then putting your own primals for about the same price there. Only to find a few hours later that all the primal prices have fallen down 15g thanks to undercutting and oversupply.

Could you please do a post about the various techniques you use to sell your products in the ah or trade channel. I feel like i’m not selling them as efficiently as i can. Thanks for the great site =)

I generally work under the idea of Patience. My auction house alt has a few bags of things ready to sell. I have a full Inscription bag of 1-5 stack glyphs, bags of eternals, crafting mats, and some vanity items. Every time I’m logged in, I check almost all those items. I know the average prices. I buy when they seem absurdly low (unless there’s a good reason they’re tanking), and I post when they’re higher than average. I also stay away from items with large deposit prices since your margin can get ruined with multiple postings (Jewelcrafters have to deal with this). Checking the AH multiple times a day and on different days of the week is the best way but only people who really enjoy the AH will do this.

All my glyphs have sold for 10g+. I don’t list them if they’re lower than that. I expect that one day there won’t be any others and I can post higher than average or that a Patch change may make the glyph better.

I stay away from broadcasting things I’m selling on the AH because it often tells sellers that the market’s low on an item and they should post fast. Conversely, I do listen to Trade channel and post on AH when someone goes “LF X at 20g each!”

You never know what time will do. If you don’t actively need money then waiting out a trend is worth it. I remember that thorium bars used to sell for 3g a stack. Now they’re at 30g a stack. Crimsom whelplings used to sell for 60g. Primal shadows for a gold or two, then they went up to 15g, now they’re back to a gold or two. You can get burned. I never unloaded all my large brilliant shards when the price was at 10g apiece, and now they’re at 1g apiece. So far I’m just waiting it out. We’ll see.
