Disenchanting Stoneguard Bands (Revisited)

This is a follow-up post requested by our readers. The original article on making gold by Disenchanting Stoneguard Bands was a neat trick you could do for easy enchanting mats or profit. After patch 3.08 and the nerfs to the number of materials used in enchants led to prices of dust/essences declining in price on some servers. This was the original intention of the developers as well as increase the price of shards. Doing the disenchanting trick used net you double your investment in optimal conditions, let’s see how the new prices affect this method. The first set of data is used from the older post, using the same number of materials received from disenchanting, but applying new prices to them. The second set is a new batch of 30 [Stoneguard Band] disenchanted and applied to new prices. The third and last set of data was obtained by disenchanting 30 [Shadowmight Ring], a very similar item crafted also by Jewelcrafters. The difference being that it uses 1 [Eternal Earth] and 1 [Eternal Shadow]. This is a nice alternative item if prices of the eternals required are cheaper that the other. Also remember that on average, it takes a 300g investment to buy the eternals at 5g each. Although profits are still possible with this method, sometimes not as much. Due to RNG, sometimes you will get a lot of enchanting materials and sometimes you will get less even though you disenchanted the same number of items.

Using Old Data with New Prices:

New Total: ~430g
Old Total: ~640g
Profit: ~130g

Using New Data with New prices:

Total: ~612g
Profit: ~312g

Using 30 [Shadowmight Ring] instead of 30 [Stoneguard Band]:

Total: ~443g
Profit: ~143g

As always, apply your server’s prices to figure out if your able to profit of this method. Are any of are readers still using this little trick? I know I still am, even using them for my own enchantments.

    I used to do this, but found that the supply of reasonable priced Eternal Earth was fairly small on my server.
    I went back to crafting / DEing the lower tier items like Sun Rock Ring, Crystal Chalcedony Amulet etc.
    Using your prices and assuming 1g per green gem used (like Bloodstone or Chalcedony), each ring costs 2g to craft (gem + 2 crystallized earth).
    I just crafted / DE’d 60 amulets and received:
    61 Infinite Dust * 3g = 183g
    280 Lesser Cosmic Essence (= 9 GCE * 23g = 207g)
    3 Small Dream Shards (= 1 Dream Shard * 12g = 12g).
    Investment: 120g
    Result: 402g
    Profit: 282g

    I like these ratios a lot better, and I’m less dependant on Eternal Earth prices.

    Nice input, I may have to try this. I did noticed these JC items while leveling, just figured they wouldn’t be worth it since they weren’t a level 75+ green.

    On my realm, prices for Infinite Dust for some reason went up after 3.0.8. It has been as low as 3-4g before the patch, which was probably caused by inflation I have to take responsibility for: I’ve crafted up to 200 Stoneguard Bands per evening! I stopped doing so when I read that prices for dusts and essences are likely to go down with 3.0.8 further and the time investment for crafting/DEing wasn’t really worth the income. Appearently, this caused a shortage on Infinite Dust, and now it is back at 5-6g. Unfortunately, prices for essences are still low (23g each).

    Anyways, I’m currently crafting approx. 30 Bands per day and it’s some nice extra income.

    I also considered crafting the smaller items (Bloodstone Band, etc) Pete above mentioned, but here the time/outcome ratio is even worth.

    I wrote 280 LCE when it should be 28, but the math behind it is correct.
    Using the DE macro is nice time saver, and I usually craft / DE waiting for a raid to start, when I don’t have time to do anything else either.
    /cast Disenchant
    /use Stoneguard Band
    Takes me about 15 minutes to craft / DE / mail 50-60 items per day.

    Been doing this for a while now. 3.0.8 didn’t change much – only the demand for eternal earth. Luckily earth and shadow go for the same price on my realm so it doesn’t really matter if I craft stoneguard bands or shadowmight rings.

    I personally like the stone guard band better because it is less time consuming than anything else. But then, I usually do 100 ring at a time so that might be it. Further, on my server, it is more profitable to put an enchant on a scroll than selling mats (i do both but sell mats i.e dusts when it is 120g+).

    I have been doing Bloodstone band, Crystal Chalcedony Band, Crystal Citrine Necklace, and Sun Rock Ring.

    I find that I make more money this way as I get 5 items per eternal. The crystals sell for about 20G a stack on my server so I can ussually get 20 Rings for about 48G. Dust sells for 80-90G on my server, so worst case I still double my money.

    You may also look into Earthshadow Ring to turn into shards. If you are an enchanter it’s a great way to get all your patterns quick.
