Prospecting Saronite Ore & JC/Ench Spreadsheet

Saronite Ore

This article is an extension of our previous articles on Powerleveling Jewelcrafting, Cheap Enchanting as a Byproduct, and Recouping all Expenses and Disenchanting Stoneguard Bands. To sum up what those two are about; they are the process of taking raw materials, crafting, then disenchanting for profit. For this method to work at its’ optimum level, you will need a 390+ Jewelcrafter and a 350+ Enchanter. The JC skill has to be high enough to buy profitable patterns and the EH skill high enough to disenchant Northrend greens. Simply put, this will be your process:

For maximum efficiency, there should be no green quality gems left over except for [Shadow Crystal] and [Dark Jade]. There are recipes for them, however they uses a whole [Eternal Earth] rather than 2 crystallized forms, making this not profitable on most economies. If for some reason green gems and their perfect cuts sell well on your server, you can always cut some of them. For most, you will be turning those in to enchanting materials. This may be a time consuming process with all the time spent at the AH, prospecting, crafting, and disenchanting.

Prospecting Results

1000 (50 Stacks @ 20g each) [Saronite Ore]

Just by looking at the total spent on ore (1000g) and the number of [Scarlet Ruby]‘s (900g), we have come very close to breaking even with everything else being pure profit.

Making Jewelery

Consider making these BOP’s if they are profitable
(Market Value of [Eternal Earth] + 2 green gems < [Small Dream Shard]):

Additional Tools

To figure out how much this method is worth to you, you must find out how much each stack of [Saronite Ore] is worth in your economy. Worth meaning not its’ actual market value, but what the gems and enchanting materials sell for as the result of [Prospecting] it. Luckily there is a spreadsheet (with instructions) you can use to figure all this information out using drop rate percentages based on the ones at Wowhead.com and yes it does take into account how much your’re buying the [Eternal Earth] for. Just export it if you want to change the values based on your own economy. For those interested in the formula associated with it, it can be found at ElitistJerks. For us, we had an estimated 50g value for each stack of ore, while market prices were at 20g/stack. This meant that for every stack we buy, we make about 30g. So for those 50 stacks, it would be a 1500g profit. However I am almost positive we made more than that with the massive amounts of blue gems and enchanting materials as a result.

Stockpiling for 3.1

In the next patch, expect many items to go up in price. Some of the materials gained from this method may be worth a lot more soon. Ore, earth, gems are definitely in this category. The new Ulduar patterns will bring back some of the demand for all 3 of those. It may be wise to hang on to a few of these for higher profits in 3.1 as well as for your own gear.

The two blue rings you list are BoP, so your JC has to also be your enchanter.

  • http://www.warcraftecon.net Warcraftecon

Thanks for catching that, I normally don’t make those.

  • Gecko

On your disenchanting macro, there needs to be a space between “sun” and “rock”. :) Love the macro, good idea

  • Gecko

And “blood” “stone” needs to be spaced out as well.

  • Sosha

“Bloodstone” should not have a space. I was using the macro last night and had to modify it to get it to work correctly for the “Bloodstone Band”

You have totally inspired me to make a new toon that will be JC and Enchant. Fits in well with the other toon that is a Miner, so I won’t even need to buy the mats if I don’t feel like it.

  • Lav

The 2 BoP items you listed are in fact not bop.

@ Gecko – The great thing is you can also open your mail while it is casting disenchant. Combine that with a mail mod and your speeding up this process significantly.

@ Erik – If it is a new toon, then you will be able to DE a lot of your quest rewards for a decent profit. Post coming up on that topic soon.

Do you cut the rare gem or ah them as is?
Ive found that some days I can sell them as cut gems, other days I cant and I wish I had just left them the way they were. Ive tried re-selling the previous days cut gems but only about half sell

  • http://www.warcraftecon.net Warcraftecon

I usually cut them, rarely are uncut ones selling better than a cut gem. Having a few of the tanking world drop recipes help also (Champions/Resolute Monarch Topaz). Prices of gems in general are starting to fall for obvious reasons, I bought another gbank tab to stockpile excess gems for 3.1. Since there is no word of epic gem recipes yet and Ulduar loot is pretty much finalized, we can assume rare gems are still going to be the gem of choice when Ulduar is out.

Hey, first off great topic just started this factory today and already seeing good results, i have a small waste issue i dont have use for the dark jade or shadow crystal since my enchanter is not my Jeweler, so instead of just selling raw or cut( i cant get the volume of regular sales) i was wondering if there is anything they can be made with or and other ideas on how to maximize profit from my otherwise waste item?

@ Winnfield – Well it is hard to sell Dark Jade/Shadow Crystal in large volumes, especially due to their color. A few tips I can offer, besides vendoring them, are to:

    - cut them into gems that may sell for a few gold, a bit more if they are perfect cuts

    - craft Focusing Lenses

    - craft Jade Dagger Pendant, a BOE blue, however it uses a whole Eternal Earth also

Hey thanks, i have chosen to craft them into cut gems, i dont see it as a loss just not as efficient as the other gems, im investing aprox 500g a day into this now, and the Enchanting mats sell almost instantly due to myself being the cheapest supplier.

Im having trouble on pricing my rare gems especially the scarlet ruby cuts, i use “Lil sparkys workshop mod” to judge what cut sells for most but im having issuses with undercutters and general non sales should i just price for a lower profit but instant sales i dont mind getting a lower margin if i can always sell volumes, any advice would be great :D
