The Undermine Journal – A New Tool That Will Change The Way You Make Gold

While still in its very early development phases, this is one of the best tools we have come across for making gold in the World of Warcraft since Auctioneer. With the introduction of the Mobile Auction House and the way it offers auction data online, developers are coming up with various ways to take advantage of this data. Erorus is one of the first players to develop a website that uses the data in a very useful way. We at Warcraft Econ would like to present to you; The Undermine Journal.

The Undermine Journal reads most of a realm’s Auction House data about once every hour. This fine and consistent granularity of data provides statistical information that was previously impossible or impractical to obtain.

Data is collected for item types such as: Bags, Potions, Elixirs, Flasks, Scrolls, Food, Enchants, Consumables, Parts, Devices, Cloth, Leather, Metal and Stone, Herbs, Elements, Dust, Essences, Shards, Projectiles, Recipes, Gems, Mounts, Pets, and some Quest and Reputation items.

Similar to what is offered in The Wall Street Journal, The Undermine Journal can track the performance of various items on each server. There are graphs, pie charts, seller information, profitability, trends, highest profit items, and more. There is just so much data here that if you analyze it you can have an advantage over your fellow competitors. It even tracks what time of day and day of the week your competition is posting.

As you can see above, I have some predictable posting patterns.

This tool can also change the way gold cap interviews are presented. Your selling data will give us an idea of what you are selling in relation to everything else. Are you focusing more on a certain color of gem or market? This site will graph it all out for us!

One of the most interesting features that it offers is the ability to predict prices. While we are not sure about the algorithms it uses, over time it can be the closest thing you can get to tracking the profitability of an item in the future. This can give you enough information to make certain changes to your gold making ways or even plan for the future. We are very excited to see this new tool develop over time.

At the moment only a few US servers are supported. If you want your server to be added during their hourly scans, you will need to make a submission on their site. Well, what are you waiting for, head over there and let us know what you think! Also if you have any suggestions, feedback, or anything to contribute, let them know so they can possibly add new features that the gold making community wants

Seriously, this new site is intense! I thought that the Remote AH would give people who subscribed to it a huge advantage in the AH PvP game. Now that all of this information is organized in a way that can actually be analyzed, I think we’re about to see a new class of Goblin emerge.

Wow, I can’t wait until my realm is available for this!

Woah. Nice report. One big thing I see as disturbing….

Why are the colors in the Gem pie chart not colored coated to match the gem colors?

Green Gems are represented by Green Slice of the pie.
All the other colors are mismatched with another color. ROFL

I know, tell me about it. I can’t wait to start writing some articles on how to analyze this data to give you an advantage in your economy!

If they would implement my server faster I would be willing to pay for their service. There are SOO many things you could do with this information. I was recently wishing that I could do something like this. It seems right now there is no place for me to request my server, so I hope I won’t have to wait too long- Samsclub-Aggramar, Horde

@ Daniel – Well the list of servers is starting to grow since we first heard about it. There should be a place to make a request, but I think the links are broken for the about/realm request pages. Remember that this is still in alpha testing and is a work in progress. But best of luck to those who eventually get their realm added!
