Guild Bank Liquidation Before Cataclysm

Can I turn a 6 tab guild bank with 56,000 gold into the gold cap? This is a task I have taken on with my current guild. They don’t know it yet, but I will try to turn that 56k into 214k or at least double the amount of gold in the bank. I think to hit the cap, I am going to have to invest the gold in crafted items and have guild members use their professions. In the stale time at the end of an expansion right before the new one, this might be a fun experiment. I will document my process here and hopefully we can hear some input and suggestions from our readers. This little series might even help officers and guild masters with liquidating items before Cataclysm. I know a lot of players are pack rats and never let anything go, however I am the opposite. If there is profit I will sell and if for some reason I need something back, I can just re-buy it, most likely at lower prices. So detailed below is the current situation of the guild bank and a few starting steps on what I plan on doing with it. If you have any suggestions, please let us know in the comments!

The Gameplan

  • Sell off miscellaneous items that the guild will never use
  • With cooking; combine fish/meat with northern spices
  • Sell popular raid food and cooking daily quest meats
  • Sell off enchant scrolls, re-buy at lower cost later if our raiders actually use these
  • Sell glyphs that are worth over 10g each
  • Sell some potions, but leave enough for raiders
  • Liquidate all gems, possibly turn uncommon gems into enchanting materials for resale
  • Sell BOE epics while they are still worth something
  • Sell the lonely primordial saronite, the value of them will only keep going down

So far that is the blueprint off the top of my head. If you have anything to add on turning these items into more profitable results, please leave a comment.

It's a great idea, and definitely something I should do on each of my toons as well. However, by looking at what you have in the guild bank, you're biggest moneymaker is going to be the 56K gold you already have! Taking a quick look, I'd estimate you have *maybe* 4k worth of stuff there in the banks.

Definitely finish off the Saronite Shuffle with those green gems, but use the DE mats with a guild enchanter to make a few of the most popular enchants. I would also buy up all the reasonably priced epic gems you can and have a guildie cut them for you. I personally would stay out of inscription for this experiment because it would put too much strain on a guildie to churn out all those glyphs for you, and then you'd have to store them somewhere.

Good luck, it's an interesting experiment to say the least!

"I'd estimate you have *maybe* 4k worth of stuff there in the banks".

That makes me sad haha, but you are right there isn't much in there. They also sent me some stuff on a guild mule that had a few glyphs and enchanting scrolls. I would have to estimate raw materials are with about 30k at this point. The saronite shuffle was where I was headed too. I'll keep everyone updated on the current situation.

Yeah I been procrastinating cleaning out my 3 guild banks and 10 personal banks too. Ick!

I've been on top of my own personal bank/gbanks lately with Cataclysm coming up. Hanging on to materials may cause me to lose money, however you can also argue that they may be worth even more in the expansion. I would rather cash out quick and not have to play the stockpiling game and have mats clogging up my banks.

Use some of your green and purple gems to make shadow jade, shadowcrystal and dark jade "focusing lens". I regularly keep 3 of each type at 19g99s on the AH (raw gems sell at 2-9g each). While you certainly wont sell like 20 a week I sell like 1-4 of each type a week to people who must be curious about what they do or just want play around with one while bored. They certainly are not items which people will regularly undercut you on as very few people think they will sell and a reasonably cheap cost to post on the AH. If you have the time while undertaking this venture it will make you gold if your server is anything like mine do it!
I have also spent time using one of them outside of org AH just saying "pew pew lazors" and targetting people as they enter he AH which gets some fun reactions and the a couple of sales XD.

A fun and interesting tip, I'll try it out again. They used to not sell very well, maybe a few a day.
