Alchemy Mount: Vial of the Sands Costs 28,500 Gold in Vendor Materials

Video/Picture credits: MMO-Champion.com

So most of you have probably heard about the Alchemy Mount, Vial of the Sands, will be introduced in Cataclysm. It will transform you into a dragon and you can have another player ride on your back, similar to the mounts that carry passengers. However prepare to spend a fortune on crafting this mount. Much like getting a motorcycle crafted, it requires you to purchase items off a vendor at a set price in addition to various other materials.

Update: Manaview is having a limited time sale, 50% off its’ products. Lasts all week!

Costs of vendor only mats:

  • Alchemy Mount, Vial of the Sands: 28,500 gold
    • 1x Pyrium-Laced Crystal: 4500g
    • 8x Sands of Time: 24,000g (8 x 3000g each)

Other Materials Required:

  • 12x Trugold
  • 8x Flask of the Winds
  • 8x Flask of Titanic Strenghth
  • 8x Deepstone Oil

There will most likely not be any reputation discount as well. However the level 24 guild perk Bartering might possibly reduce the prices by 10% or bring the vendor materials to 25,650g.

Summary of what you need to craft this mount:

  • Max level 525 Alchemy
  • 28,500 Gold

According to a Wowhead commenter, theophilus77, a break down of all the materials for the Trugold and flasks:

  • 72 Pyrium Ore
  • 120 Volatile Air
  • 120 Volatile Fire
  • 120 Volatile Water
  • 96 Volatile Life **
  • 96 Azshara’s Veil **
  • 96 Cinderbloom **
  • 192 Whiptail **
  • 16 Crystal Vial **
  • 8 Albino Cavefish

** – If you are an elixir master it may not cost you this much of the material based on the number of elixir master procs you get.

I post this all at risk of making it more understandable and easy to acquire, but the mats and gold cost seem to be a heavy enough defense that I don’t need to worry about this information making this mount a common sight in Cataclysm.

Also, if you remember us saying that things cost a significant amount to Volatiles in Cataclysm, well we found out that they drop as a whole instead of in motes or the crystallized version. So the volatile requirements of most crafted items aren’t actually as bad as we thought. No longer do we have to combine 10 elementals to form a single one.

    Ack, that's insane!
At least its doable solo, so you aren't forced to group.

  • lancore

Will it be BoE then, just like the chopper?

Btw, Goblins should get them 25% cheaper thanks to their racial

The tooltip says Bind on Pickup, so it is for alchemists only. From the rumors I have heard, the only way around it is to craft it, learn the mount, and re-roll a different profession.

      • http://www.ele-mentalgold.com Shamaenei

oh man now I have to drop a profession to do this :S that should take me even more gold… well i've got enough gold so what the heck

the only problem with that is like the engineers choppers mount or the tailorers carpets it requires a min lvl to use even after learnt

  • Sarge

Asides from the material cost, where does an Alchemist get the recipe for it?

Regarding the different possibiliies (raid drop, reputation vendor, world drop) the costs could rise a lot more.

    • http://www.warcraftecon.net Warcraftecon

According to MMO-Champion's database, it says the recipe is learned on discovery. Although this could be wrong or changed once Cataclysm goes live.

Where the hell do you get the Recipe for this mount. I got my alchemy to 525 and i have over 100kgold to spend on mats but no recipe!! Any idea's?

  • http://www.warcraftecon.net Warcraftecon

We have been meaning to do a write up soon, just so busy with Cataclysm!

The short answer is, through max level Archaeology. After that it is buried through 2 levels of RNG. It looks like it will be as rare as a sea turtle mount in our opinion. Most Alchemists won't own one of these, similar to how not every engineer could afford the motorcycle either. The recipe will be BOP.

  • Unknown Guest

Recipe is BoP, but once created the vial of sands is BoE, Alchemists will be able to sell this to other players for loads of gold.

  • Suzyblue

alright boys n girls clarifying time here. the recipe comes from archeology, in a jar of some sort from tolvir digsites, the goblin racial discount does not apply but the guild perk does, and its gonna be wicked hard to get. cheers from suzyblue of sentinels
