How to Make Gold with your iPhone/Smart Phone

A Guest Post By Banquiere of Nesingwary-US.
Banquiere [Palmetto Bank] is one of my five human female alts (each decked out in elegant black dresses and ruby shades) that handle my banking on the Nesingwary server. As a brief background, I have been playing WOW since May of 2005 and I have four alliance level 80s. I’ve always maintained a decent bankroll, but until this past summer I was unaware of the existence of a gold cap. That all changed when my guild master, Elisha [Paradigm], was profiled on Warcraftecon. Interest in raiding in our guild had waned since killing the Lich King and I was looking for a new challenge; I decided to treat the gold cap as a raid boss and see if I could get it done before December 7. Using tips from sites like Warcraftecon, Just My Two Copper, and Cold’s Gold Factory, I have made significant progress towards the cap. Unfortunately, I’m running out of time and it looks like I will not make the old cap by Cataclysm. I guess I’ll just have to shoot for a million.
One of the main reasons that my progress has slowed over the past couple of months is that I have been spending a lot of gold stockpiling goods as a hedge against inflation in Cataclysm. Much of that stockpiling has been done on my iPhone. My strategy involves combining the resources of the Undermine Journal, an email account, and the remote auction house application.
To employ this strategy you first have to come up with a list of items that you want to watch for on the auction house. You might be interested to know each time a particular rare pattern appears on the AH. Or you might want to know each time a particular commodity is offered below a certain price point. For instance, I’m willing to pay up to 1g25s for bloodstone, chalcedony, huge citrine and sun crystal. My jewelcrafter combines those gems with crystallized earth to make rings and necklaces that I can either disenchant or vendor for a profit.
The next step is to go to the Undermine Journal. The Undermine Journal is a website that scans most of a realm’s auction house data about once every hour and then maintains data and statistics about the price of items on that realm. Not every realm is covered, but they are constantly adding new ones. If you click on your realm from the main screen you will be presented with a search box. Do a search of one of the items on your watch list. The search will provide you with considerable information about the recent history of that item on your realm. If you scroll down you will also see an option to set a “market notification” for that item. You can use that option to have the Undermine Journal send you an email every time that item reaches the parameters you set. For example, Undermine Journal sends me an email every time sun crystal falls below 1g25s1c on the Nesingwary server. I have those alerts directed to an email address that I can access on my iPhone.
Once you receive an email alert on your smart phone, it then becomes a simple matter of logging into the remote auction house application on your phone to purchase the item. Access to the remote auction house is $2.99 per month.
Using this strategy on your smart phone will really give you an edge on the competition. You can painlessly keep track of prices on your server and snatch good deals whenever they arise without being constantly tied to your computer.
