Cataclysm Prospecting Elementium Ore With Video

It’s that time again… the time to prospect ore in a new expansion. We went to the auction house today and picked up 32 stacks of [Elementium Ore] for around ~6700g, which comes out to about 200g per stack. We would think that this is a pretty good price considering it’s only the second day of Cataclysm and before the introduction of Wotlk epic gems, Titanium was going for about this amount. Hopefully we can show you what to expect when prospecting elementium, which is the second tier ore, similar to Saronite Ore. Now the point of this is not to showcase a new Saronite Shuffle gold making method… yet, but mainly a way to obtain gems to level Jewelcrafting to 525. If you are going for realm first, you need to at least level it to 475 skill on the first day to unlock the JC daily at your respective capital cities. We also provided a long video of the entire 32 stack prospect, but still refer to the averages below before you come to any conclusions.
Prospecting Results
640 (32 Stacks @ 210g per) [Elementium Ore]
Requires 475 Jewelcrafting to prospect, [Obsidium Ore] only requires 450 skill.

Notes
- You will receive a minimum of 1 uncommon gem
- Each prospect can also contain 2x rares or 2x uncommon gems
- Sometimes you even get 3 gems per prospect, but please see averages below
- Average 5 gems per stack or 1 gem per prospect
- According to our sample, we came close to 1 rare per stack
- According to our sample, we received 4.5 uncommon gems per stack
- Based on what we paid, it averages to 40g per gem
- meaning if you have a choice of prospecting or buying raw gems, calculate how much a stack costs then divide by 5 and compare that to the cost of a single gem)
