Hall of Fame – 1 Million Gold Cap Club: Boska of Nagrand-US
The Warcraft Econ Hall of Fame interviews the few elite players that have hit the World of Warcraft gold cap of 999,999 gold 99 silver 99 copper as well as ones who have obtain 500k and 250k. We have with us, Boska of Nagrand-US, who will be sharing their story with us today.
Please tell us a little about yourself and your gaming experience.
Hi, this is Boska from Nagrand US. I am a day 1 Wow player (wasn’t interested in playing in the betas or ptrs for that matter - prefer to experience stuff on live only), was somehow in the games shop on the day of the game launch and impulsed bought WoW. That spiralled into getting a whole guild of mates all playing wow, some of which still play today, but most have moved on. 40 man raiding was epic, a shame WoW went away from it – sure there were problems filling a raid sometimes, but they should have tried to fix that in other ways (like the guild finder and tank bonus for 5 mans etc) rather than watering it down.
Have loved PC since an early age, the Commodore 64 was an amazing machine. Like having a look at other games and MMOs, but WoW has been the longest of any of them. UO (Ultima Online) was superior in many ways, and kept me interested for a long time – it had a different dynamic, you could lose everything you carried on you if you died in the wrong place (in PVP they could loot ALL your stuff lol was awesome).
Do you raid or PvP most? Both? How do you enjoy the game?
Mainly raid with mates, but in saying that I normally change mains each expansion, to try and keep it fresh for myself. Was a healer in Vanilla, Mage in BC, Pally tank in Wrath and now back to playing a healer again. Same with the game in general – I swap between PvP, making gold, raiding, and achievements.
Why did you choose to collect this amount of gold?
Started to find it easy to make gold, so just started to accumulate. It then was in reach so just went for it, took a while to get there an hour or two a day was about normal. Best day made about 75k profit and worst made 50g – some days are diamonds, some days are stones.
How did you go about getting to this gold amount? Any creative or original ideas?
I change between different ways of making gold and accumulating. Nothing special, I do have a little army of transmute alchemists (7 of them) but they dont do a lot, 1 transmute a day for some steady income etc. Maybe when epic gems come out they will make me some real gold. Also whenever a new expansion come out there is always something that can be made for cheap and disenchanted (enchanting mats are a great market, especially early on) – I go through every pattern on Wowhead and look for this item – have found them in both of the last expansions, in Wrath had it to myself for a few weeks and made a ton of cash.
What is your master list?
Nothing really, I do abit of crafting and flipping but no real show stoppers.
What items are in your Snatch list?
Abyss Crystals (to shatter)
Carnelians (to either transmute to Inferno rubies or make spikes to dis)
Obsidium Ore to prospect for daily gems etc
Some old world recipes
How did you learn to do it? Anyone or resource you would like to thank?
Self taught, read some webpages but rarely have anything new. Sometimes a real gem comes along, but normally its the same old story doing the rounds.
What addons, if any, do you use to help you make gold and why are they needed?
Auctioneer and Postal
Are you still going for more gold? If so, do you have a new goal? Are you close?
Will just keep it rolling in and see what happens, will probably go do some achievements. Need a goal to inspire me, so will wait and see whether they introduce an achievement or something
Do many people know you have this amount of gold?
Only a few real real friends, no real secret but also not a bragger
Did you spend your gold on fun things? What have you bought? What things would you like to buy?
If I see something I want I will buy it, eg a set of gear for a new 85 – but nothing really at the moment
If you were the professor of a gold making 101 college class, what would be some things you would talk about?
Dont believe everything you read, trust no one 100% and enjoy yourself. Old school mats always increase in value, if anything is ever too low and you can afford to store it for a while stash it away till later. eg Saronite Ore – bought a heap at 13g, sold it for 90g average, Cobalt the same, Fel Iron the same etc etc
How about an advanced gold making class?
Look for bargains in trade and dont be afraid to barter, offer everyone that offers about 30% of their offer and work your way up – you wont get all of them, but you will get some awesome bargains – be polite, and if they say no let it drop and try another – plenty of fish in the sea.
Do you have good farming strategies or spots?
Dont listen when people say farming isnt going to get your rich, they lie or are too lazy to try it. I spent my first 20 hours or so farming on a dual gatherer toon – was rocking 10k an hour, easiest money I ever made. Can still make an easy 2k an hour farming, normal stuff like Heartblossom and Ash Veil.
What was the best deal you ever came across?
Had a Guild GM sell me 100 Saronite Bars for 300g each when they were selling for about 1k still. He was quitting the game and wanted to give the gold to his guildies and wanted a quick sale, right place / right time.
Do you remember any of your worst deals?
None really come to mind
What are your future plans with WoW?
Would like to keep raiding, some achievements.
What are you predictions for the future WoW economy?
Same as a lot of people, got a bank tab of pyrite and 250 JC tokens (across a few toons) and a transmute alchy army – will see how that goes.
Thank you for taking the time to do this interview for Warcraft Econ. Do you have any last words?
Have fun and play with mates – its the only thing that will keep you in WoW (after the first few years……hehe)
Thanks for reading
