The AH Never Changes
And why does it not change? How does it stay the same no matter what game your playing? Because at it’s core what drive the AH to function are people and we never change. The lazy people on wow are going to be lazy on Rift, the morons will stay morons, and the goblins will stay goblins. This means that everything I have learned from the AH game on wow will apply to rift and vice versa along with every game that will ever come out with a similar economic structure. The only changes are how you shuffle around names and numbers. Every situation I found myself in wow I’ll find once again in rift and the same methods will need to be applied to work with it.
Hell I’ve even ran off my first camper.
Supply rates are still tied to the amount of people farming them which translates into how many people are questing in a certain level range. Because of that you can predict when a supply flood will be coming based on what is flooded now. Granted we all level at a different rate, but for the most part it’s the same few levels a day. When an economy is driven almost entirely by raw materials this is a very important piece of information to have. Knowing when a flood is coming you can also predict when a relative shortage is coming as well, that means flipping.
If level 30 leather is down to 3 silver each with 100 stacks up, you are almost guaranteed that it’ll be up to 50 silver in a week or so. By reacting accordingly and investing in it you can resell it later for a huge profit margin or skill up your professions insanely cheap. I did this with my RC which is why I only spent maybe 10 plat total to level it up. I RB’d all of the greens I got from questing and bought up all of the burlap gear once it got flooded again and waited for all of the linen gear to go down in price next.
Remember me going on and on about how deep undercuts are the way to go to make the big time and scare off competition? Well that’s even more true in Rift since it’s still so new. When you’re desperate for money like everyone else, you might lean towards undercutting by only a few silver instead of a few gold. You know your materials will sell at some point so you don’t go that low.
This is a good call just like it was in wow (as with anything that has a high sales rate) but does not apply to any crafted goods that are in demand. Things like runes get flooded now and again when people are skilling it up, but once they’re all gone there will still be a few people trying to make money from that profession. So far I am the only one that is a regular seller and undercuts by gold and not silver.
That’s why several people that used to sell things daily don’t anymore, some “moron” (hint: it’s me) is just ruining the prices when they’re so high!
Thanks for stopping by!
