WoW Patch 4.3: How to Get Epic Gems (Raiding Geodes & Alchemy Transmutes)
Geodes that are being added in patch 4.3 will be the source for epic gems. These drop from the new Deathwing raid - Dragon Soul:
Patch 4.3 Epic Gem Geodes
Crystalline Geode has a chance at dropping an epic gem, its NOT guarentted though.
Elementium-Coated Geode only drops primary stat (red, purple, orange) epic gems and will always give you an epic gem.
Perfect Geode always drops an epic gem but it can be any of the six colors.
According to PTR tester Iroared:
Currently on PTR raid finder bosses don’t give you anything; killing a boss in the first wing on normal gives 1 Mote of Darkness, which is the currency for Crystalline Geode. Elementium-Coated Geode is sold for Essence of Corrupted Deathwing, not sure whether those drop from last 4 bosses or from heroics. Perfect Geode isn’t on vendors yet.

- Fire Prism – Chance to contain gems
- Vendor – Exchange some form of points/currency for gems
- Pyrite – Prospecting for epic gems might be added in a later patch, but doubtful
