The Warcraft Econ Hall of Fame is a column featuring the few elite players that have hit the World of Warcraft gold cap of 214,748 gold 36 silver 46 copper. We have with us today Ghostboci of Stormscale-EU, also known as Greedy Goblin, who will be sharing their stories with us today.
Please tell us a little about yourself.
My main is Ghostboci of Stormscale EU
Do you raid or PvP most? Both? How do you enjoy the game?
I raid once-twice a week after buying a spot for 5K/week. I really like hard mode fights, and hope that the guild will soon put normal ToC on “PuG yourself if you want” and place only hard modes on schedule.
Why did you choose to collect this amount of gold?
I started a blog about making money and reaching the cap was an obvious way to prove it works.
How did you go about getting to the 214k? Did you use professions? Auction House arbitrage? Any creative ideas?
I used several ideas but now 95% of my money comes from inscription.
How did you learn to do it?
I leveled inscription simply because I was lazy to grind SoH rep. I noticed that glyphs sell as candy for 300-1500% profit. I enlarged the business constantly, now I have around 1700 glyphs in the AH. I’m not claiming that I invented the full-scale “sell all glyphs” industry, but I was among the first ones who created it.
What addons, if any, do you use to help you make gold.
Auctioneer, possessions, Whohas, Lilsparky’s workshop
Are you still going for more gold? If so, do you have a new goal? Are you close?
I’m currently down to 120K since paying 5K/week, + 40K to the participants of the blue ulduar run. My goal is to re-reach the cap and forget milling for another half year.
Do many people know you have this amount of gold?
My blog has 2.7K subscribers, 4K random visitors daily, so I guess so.
Did you spend your gold on fun things? What have you bought? What things would you like to buy?
NEVER! I think vanity is useless and the basis of every wealth is careful spending.
Do you have any special tips that you would like to share?
No matter what server you play on, there is a business that has higher G/hour than any form of farming. Find it! Grinding elementals is boring, leave it to the dumbs.
Do you have any fun stories from when you were grinding?
My only fun story is that I never grinded.
What was the best deal you ever came across?
Selling a single titansteel bar for 1200G. It was soon after WotLK. The materials were 100G
Do you remember any of your worst deals?
I invested into lot of infinite dust before 3.1. They finally sold with 1G/each loss. For 3 bags full of dusts, that’s a lot of loss for lot of list-relist. Never again!
What are your future plans with WoW?
You’ll see it on the blog.
Thank you for taking the time to do this interview for Warcraft Econ. Do you have any last words?
Just the wise moral teaching of Cpt Jack Sparrow: “Take what you can, give nothing back!”
If you would like to make a comment, please fill out the form below.
Wait, why are paying 5k a week to raid?
@Saul
Basically he bought himself a raidplace in a raidguild, so he can raid with them but has not attend to every raid. You can read more about the deal on his blog.
Lol, what’s the point of having money if you don’t spend it.
So do I get a mention? I have been sitting on 280k for a while now (and I have stopped collecting all together).
@ Taco – Of course, what’s your email? We can set up a interview if you would like.
Like the money gevlon not the ramblings about M&S. Good interview!
I didn’t read the bit about the screen shotting your gold. I will send you a shot when I get home from work later.
