The Warcraft Econ Hall of Fame is a column featuring the few elite players that have hit the World of Warcraft gold cap of 214,748 gold 36 silver 46 copper. We have with us, ”Any” of Aszune-EU, who will be sharing their stories with us today.

Please tell us a little about yourself and your gaming experience.

Hi, I’m Any and I play on Aszune-EU. I have started playing wow I think after 6 months it came out, took brake for a year and restarted just before Wotlk. I have tried different games so too much to mention here.

Do you raid or PvP most? Both? How do you enjoy the game?

I did PVP, but not anymore, I’m playing resto shamy and since totem was changed to give melee haste I don’t, left it completely. Now I’m in PVE, at this point killed everything, we are casuals (raids are 1-3 times a week for 3-5 h), but can be successful.

Why did you choose to collect this amount of gold?

Actually this site challenged me, just wondered if I could do that too, so thanks for that. I was on 20-30 k when I visited site.

How did you go about getting to the 214k? Did you use professions? Auction House arbitrage? Any creative ideas?

AH manipulations + professions, I like to be aggressive, its more fun. I choose for example Dream shard and raise its price, on my server it was 20-30 per peace after I constantly bought out everything that’s cheaper, that gave me less competition in enchanting. I bought hc farmer scrolls which were very underpriced and sold for my prices. So this style gave me minimum amount of competition and regular income. Professions- Enchanting, JC 95%. Tried inscription, invested time and income was disaster its about 1-2k/per hour, so left it for those who thinks that its not. With enchanting its simple- enchant scrolls and sell them. JC- I have prospected lots, I mean LOTS of saronite, I think in alt bank I have mats for another 50k just in blue gems, I don’t know if it is creative, but I found that blue gem cuts sells very good, my strategy was to concentrate on biggest population – those who don’t have so much gold to by epic gems, that was a winner, try it. Don’t know how people get epic gems to sell cuts, I don’t believe that they buy uncuted, cut it and put it in ah, its too less % profit for me, so I don’t do that. I sell epic gem cuts just because of titanium prospecting, which I am doing for powder to get tokens. Many JC’s forget about metagems, there was a period when I was selling metagems for 120-250g a peace, you know how much are materials.

Always prepare for Wednesdays and Thursdays, people get into raids, loot items, so its in your interests, that there’s only 1 who can sell what they need, these are days when I got my biggest incomes. Sometimes its ok to hold some enchants and gems for WE and THU, even buying everything out, so there’s only you on those days, but as I said, be careful buying others out, at least know your enemy before make mistake.

Here’s a tip which is most fun for me and little bit dangerous if you don’t have much golds in backup, if there are some material which you need in big amounts, but its relative expensive, of course you have some leftovers – on any day evening put it in AH for minus 10% of max price you would buy it. So there’s 2 ways-

if you have much g to play with, just left mats in till next morning, cancel them, there should be someone who underbidded you, so you can choose to wait longer for more underbids or buyout stuff.
if you don’t have much G then just keep mats in till someone underbids you, after its done cancel auctions.
So risk is that you will sell youre mats and will left with no and kicked out of market for a while, that’s suck, but never happened to me, as I keep reserves for my fun. And when you are buy stuff always leave something in so people can underbid. This thing cant be done if you are only 1 seller bare in mind that. If you have big stack, then you can create fake underbidding process- put with 1 alt, then underbid with next 1 yourself and so on, so people will see that there are big competition and sell cheap with no regret.

How did you learn to do it?

Everything what I did was my own invention, of course when I visited this site I “lolled” many of my “inventions” were here well written- how to and so on. Example- creating rings and DE them. Only thing which I really learned- how to set up addons in youtube somewhere.

What addons, if any, do you use to help you make gold?

Auctioneer, Quick Auctions 2, Postal, Lil’Sparky’s Workshop, did not even use spread sheets. If you want to achieve goldcap without QA and postal I think is big pain…

Are you still going for more gold? If so, do you have a new goal? Are you close?

Yes, but not in aggressive style anymore, still selling blue gem cuts and enchants, I have big stock, I want to clean a little bit mails and alts. So now my income is poor, its about form 3000 to 8000 per day. When I was active it was about 10-15k/day, sometimes more, but that’s rare.

Do many people know you have this amount of gold?

Just my guild. I have been hacked year ago, so that’s why I don’t give my real nick here.

Did you spend your gold on fun things? What have you bought? What things would you like to buy?

Yes and no. 4 new 3k bags, vendor mammoth and I think that’s it, mounts I get from PVE raiding, I don’t really feel that there’s something I want to buy. At this point my gold sink is titanium ore, stack is 450-600g (I don’t care about price)- I just want to finish my JC epic gem cut list.

Do you have any special tips that you would like to share?

Totally agree with this- “Make a system and stick to it. You should find out what works for other people and then make it your own.”

But…

I will buy the raw material for a price below which I will not sell the finished product, just to get rid of competition, but you have to be careful here. I expand into as many markets as I want. All the time try something new, sometimes something you think is stupid will give certain amount of income.

Do you have any fun stories from when you were grinding?

I simply don’t.

What was the best deal you ever came across?

I don’t, everything is simple 5-350 G deals.

Do you remember any of your worst deals?

Maybe buying leathers for 3.3 patch, which are now in mails somewhere, found that I am too lazy now to sell artic fur. Generally speaking, I did not fail once, if price of something I bought went down, I took my time, hold it and when price went up sell it, so be patient and creative.

What are your future plans with WoW?

New Flying mount from ICC, seems I don’t have plans or goals, its all about fun.

After having fun at AH it seems I have to respec in real life to economics somehow, as I found it very entertaining to manipulating AH, predicting market and playing with other “goblins”, making fun of them.

I think to be able making gold cap even in big competition is nothing, its all about your head, be smart, knowing, foxy. More competition, more fun.
