Hall of Fame: Kermilion of Shandris-US

The Warcraft Econ Hall of Fame is a column featuring the few elite players that have hit the World of Warcraft gold cap of 214,748 gold 36 silver 46 copper. We have with us, Kermilion of Shandris-US, who will be sharing their stories with us today.

Please tell us a little about yourself and your gaming experience.

I’m Kermilion, on the Alliance side of Shandris-US. I have been playing video games since they have been released. (“nuff said) Created my first WoW toon just before Burning Crusade released. My girlfriend at the time bought it for me for Christmas. I have been hooked ever since.

Do you raid or PvP most? Both? How do you enjoy the game?

98% raid. I usually only PvP when I need an achievement. Holy Pallys don’t last too long in PvP! I raid with my guild 2 – 3 nights a week, but work the AH everyday.

Why did you choose to collect this amount of gold?

Just a personal goal, read about it here and figured I have always been able to make gold in WoW, so why not go for it.

How did you go about getting to the 214k? Did you use professions? Auction House arbitrage? Any creative ideas?

In BC, JC was huge, and worked really well, for a while, once the prices dropped, and profit, glyphs really took off. I have always added to my main source with spices, scopes, anything I could. Enchanting mats work also. I have a main and 2 lvl 80 alts, so im covered in mining/herb/inscription/JC/Enchanting/engineering.

How did you learn to do it?

Trial and error. Just figure out what people are buying and sell it to them!

What addons, if any, do you use to help you make gold.

I really only used QA2 and Postal. Everything else was macros and plain old pencil and paper.

Are you still going for more gold? If so, do you have a new goal? Are you close?

Nah, Donated most of the gold to my son and my guild. I already had most of the mounts and pets you can buy. I would really like to max out my achievements now, down every boss in all the raids.

Do many people know you have this amount of gold?

Not many. My son does, and now my guild will. Lol.

Did you spend your gold on fun things? What have you bought? What things would you like to buy?

Like I said, I have already bought just about every mount and pet you can buy in game, but I’m sure blizz will think of new ways to get the gold back.

Do you have any special tips that you would like to share?

Pay attention to what the market is doing. And timing makes a WORLD of difference. For instance, during the month, snow fall ink doesn’t sell well, but the week before the darkmoon faire opens, price doubles and it sells well.

Do you have any fun stories from when you were grinding?

Never really grind. Takes too much time.

What was the best deal you ever came across?

Titanium ore before 3.2 was buying it for 180 – 190 per stack. I had 400 stacks of ore the day epic gem patterns were released. Price that night went to 800 per stack.

Do you remember any of your worst deals?

There have been several, no comment, lol.

What are your future plans with WoW?

To down every boss in-game, max out my achievements.

I personally call spamming trade for services rendered the “labor” class of this game. If I wanted a second job selling my wares I would invest the time in a job that pays real money. Although I do know people that make good money making stuff, they are by no means considered wealthy or rich, they just have alot of gold. Still they are not the entrepreneurs that making real gold requires.
