Cataclysm Beta: Mining – Elementium, Ebonsteel, and Pyrite Bars

Wrath of the Lich King has Titansteel, Saronite, Cobalt, the equivalent bars in Cataclysm are Elementium, Ebonsteel, and Pyrite. Again the new profession cap is 525 in Cataclysm and the training for it is called Illustrious Grand Master. Alchemists can also create certain bars through transmutes, such as Transmute: Pyrium Bar. WOTLK Cataclysm Titansteel Bar [...]

Cataclysm Beta: Engineering Only Gems/Sockets And ilevel 359 Goggles

Engineers in Cataclysm can look forward to new epic goggles also known as Killshades. The requirement to wear them is 525 skill (max profession skill in Cataclysm) and to be level 80. Now don’t overreact to the insane amount of stamina on these because you are comparing Cataclysm stamina to the current levels. Other Cataclysm [...]

Cataclysm Beta: Jewelcrafting Analysis

If I had to place a bet on the most profitable profession in Cataclysm, it would have to be Jewelcrafting. With the potential of mass glyph sales going away, Inscription, JC’s main rival in gold making, will no longer be as profitable as it was in Wotlk. Although we believe there will be a window of opportunity for scribes to make a ton of money during the release of new glyphs as well as the newly introduced medium glyphs. Only time will tell what type of system Blizzard has planned for introducing new glyphs.

Jewelcrafting has proven to be a highly lucrative profession and this will probably be no different in Cataclysm. In fact, with the new change to colors/stats to diversify the highly sought after cuts, there will be less of a discrepancy in price between all the colors. In other words, green gems will be priced comparable to red gems. We have seen this concept before when Blizzard wanted eternals to have similar costs, however we all know that is not the case with Fire and Life being significantly more expensive.

So after digging around the data-mined information about Jewelcrafting, this is what we have come up with. The profession cap is now 525 and you need at least 500 to use the JC only gems. It also looks like current profession bonuses will carry over in to Cataclysm as well. See blue posts below if you need to be caught up with what’s in store for JC.

Fishing: How Profitable Is It? Part II

Back in January of 2009, we wrote about how profitable fishing was shortly after the release of Wotlk. Our numbers came out to be about 300g per hour. We decided to do this test again after noticing some increased prices of fish on our server. Our new numbers now are almost 500g/hr! Not bad for fishing [...]

It’s that time again… the time to prospect ore a few weeks after the introduction of a new patch. We went to the auction house today and picked up 32 stacks of [Titanium Ore] for around 9500g. Tailoring: Leg Armor Kits

By far, this is my most consistent market I participate in. Demand remains constant, prices are going to keep going up, and materials for the kits always costs less than the finished product. Back in Burning Crusade, leg armor kits were my main source of income, which we wrote an article on. Profits were slightly higher pre-patch 3.2, [...]

Leatherworking: Dark Nerubian Leggings, Dark Icebourne Leggings, Dark Frostscale Leggings

This is a simple crafting into disenchant method which converts cheap leather and eternals into [Dream Shard]‘s. The three items that work the best are: [Dark Nerubian Leggings] [Dark Icebourne Leggings] [Dark Frostscale Leggings] All of these BOE blue items will disenchant into a [Dream Shard] and use 4 [Heavy Borean Leather] each as well as [...]

Prospecting in 3.1

Taking a look back at pre-3.1 Prospecting/DE, which has become a very popular topic, we can see that it was highly profitable when gems/enchanting materials worth a lot. Now in 3.1, we can see that [Saronite Ore] has retained it’s average price of 17-20g per stack, while [Eternal Earth] has skyrocketed to around 10g each. We had actually had [...]

Leatherworking: Arctic Boots, Iceborne Gloves, Nerubian Legguards

We have seen methods like this one before where you turn cheap raw materials into an item that can be disenchanted to net a higher value, sometimes even vendored for profit. This works because raw materials generally are in huge supply flooding the auction house resulting in low prices. Blizzard does sometimes end up nerfing [...]

Are gem prices set to recover?

Wes ford has mentioned two weeks ago that his gem market had finally hit a healthy level for him. For me, it has just reached the point where it becomes just almost worth my time to re-dabble a bit into the gem industry. Despite having no new recipes for Jewelcrafting from Ulduar, and having a [...]

Professions Inside Ulduar

Ulduar is a great place for some professions, but so far nothing that benefits Jewelcrafters yet. Disenchanting Stoneguard Bands (Revisited)

This is a follow-up post requested by our readers. The original article on making gold by Disenchanting Stoneguard Bands was a neat trick you could do for easy enchanting mats or profit. After patch 3.08 and the nerfs to the number of materials used in enchants led to prices of dust/essences declining in price on some servers. This was [...]

Powerleveling Jewelcrafting, Cheap Enchanting as a Byproduct, and Recouping all Expenses

Powerleveling Jewelcrafting So I finally decided to make the switch to Jewelcrafting and dropped skinning for it. JC being a better min/max profession and not having to physically farm for materials was my motivation for doing it. Skinning was hardly used outside of instances and even then the money wasn’t that good. I just ended up buying most [...]

Disenchanting Stoneguard Bands

With enchanting materials selling so well, disenchanting items have become very profitable. Fishing: How Profitable Is It?

Just how profitable is fishing in Wotlk? Well we had estimated that farming [Eternal Fire] brought in 600g/hr, this is a bit lower now due to falling prices of eternals and other materials. Fishing just by itself, after 5.5 hours of testing, comes out to 300g/hr. This is not a bad ratio since you don’t come across any [...]
